After two years of temporary classrooms at other locations and lots of construction work, Friday, the 6th of June, was the great day on which building 6 could be re-opened officially. It is now boasting a state-of-the-art room concept facilitating self-organized and co-operative learning.

Among the guests and speakers were North Rhine-Westphalia's Deputy Minister-President and Minister of Schools and Education, Ms. Sylvia Löhrmann, the head of the district authority (Landrat) of the Recklinghausen district, Mr. Cay Süberkrüb, and the student representatives.

The festivities were rounded out by several musical and other artistic acts. Guests had the opportunity to tour the "new" building afterwards.

Following many months of planning and negotiations with the district, building number 6 - originally built in the 1970s and badly damaged by the windstorm "Kyrill" - started undergoing a massive remodeling in 2012. The BKCR took the opportunity to incorporate a state-of-the-art room concept for state-of-the-art learning concepts. The new architectural concept works with lots of open spaces, room for co-operative learning and a multitude of learning arrangements - all of which is backed up by the didactic concept of self-organized learning. A newly-opened cafeteria and spaces for students and teachers to work and zones for relaxing are further enhancements.
