After the retirement of the BKCR's former headteacher Mr. Nierhauve at the end of February 2020, the legal proceedings of finding a successor made it necessary for a member of the school management, Mr. Markus Brechmann, to step in as acting headteacher. He governed the BKCR during the first wave of COVID-19, aided by an acting assitant headteacher, Mr. Carsten Vooren.

Eventually, the legal proceedings came to a close and the BKCR could officially welcome Ms. Birgit Becker as the new headteacher on December 15, 2020.

Ms. Becker stated she was curious to get to know the BKCR, the city of Castrop-Rauxel and its people. She said she was aware of the dimensions of her task and resposibility, but said she had the courage to tackle things with kindness, humor, my experience and my knowledge.

Before accepting the post at the BKCR, she worked as a headteacher abroad and as an assistant headteacher at a vocational college in Dortmund.
